This work is an ongoing art practice that integrates mediation and art-making. In the core of each heart shaped object, what gives it weight and substance, is an assemblage of found objects. Some hearts contain the broken shards of pottery, shells, others hold lead bullets or doll parts and broken toys. The weight of the heart is proportional to the gravity of the situation I was ruminating on. The core of the heart is wrapped in strips of reclaimed fabric. Each layer is a prayer for peace and equanimity. Each stitch is a suture that pulls together the external to the internal, holding together the edges of a symbolic wound.
